Bachelor of Science in Economics with STEM Designation

The creation of a Bachelor of Science in Economics will provide a STEM degree option with two concentrations that enable majors to focus on either the data analytics approach or the Mathematical Emphasis modeling approach to economic analyses 鈥 each path facilitates entry into unique career and/or graduate school options.

Below is further information about each key point.

Program coming Fall 2024.

Data Analytics Concentration

One of the goals of the Economics Department is to expose students to both mainstream and heterodox theories of economics. This program moves the department toward achievement of that goal by creating an avenue via the Data Analytics concentration for students to learn and apply more data analytics methods outside of traditional econometrics.

The Data Analytics concentration will qualify graduates for a number of entry-level econometric and data-forecasting careers in the government and private sector. Students intending to pursue a graduate degree in Economics will be encouraged to major in the Bachelor of Arts in Economics program or Bachelor of Science in Economics – Data Analytics concentration program, and double-major or minor in mathematics.

Mathematical Emphasis Concentration

The Mathematical Emphasis concentration helps prepare students for policy-related graduate programs requiring more rigorous quantitative training. These students will be encouraged to double-major or minor in other policy-related degree programs, such as Political Science, International and Global Studies, or Sociology.
